Metso has supplied special, Chromium-Molybdenum steel mill linings for one 40'x25.5' SAG mill and two 26'x42' ball mills for the expansion of the grinding plant at the Chilean Los Bronces mine, which belongs to Anglo American.
The order includes liners made of Cr-Mo (Chromium-Molybdenum) steel alloy for the heads, shell and discharge system of the three grinding mills. The liners will be produced at the Metso foundry in Sorocaba, Brazil. Commissioning the equipment is planned to begin in the second half of 2010. Los Bronces is an open-pit mine from which Copper and Molybdenum are extracted. The mine is located in the metropolitan region, 65 km from the city of Santiago, Chile, and is 3,500 meters above sea level. (vertical cement grinding mill)
First to use Poly-Met linings
Los Bronces and Metso Chile have a longstanding partnership. "Los Bronces was one of our first customers to use Poly-Met linings in a ball mill, some ten years ago, and it is also one of the first to use Poly-Met for lining the shell of the 28' x 14' and 34' x 17' SAG mills," says Mauricio Carrasco, Metso Sales Manager for wear and replacement parts. The results achieved by Metso over the years have contributed to the continuity of the business.
Metso has the most complete line of metallic, Poly-Met, magnetic and rubber linings in the market, in addition to offering customized solutions that ensure greater efficiency in the grinding process for each operation. "An important distinction that sets us apart is our knowledge of the customer's process – this enables us to offer the best in production capacity and enhanced profitability," adds Carrasco.
The Los Bronces expansion project involves an investment of US$ 2.2 to US$ 2.5 billion in the construction of new facilities for grinding, ore transportation and concentration, which will increase the unit's production capacity to approximately 400,000 tons of Copper annually.
Metso is the leader in the Brazilian metallic mill lining market and this is the first time the company has supplied this type of mill lining to the Chilean market. Their choice of supplier was based on the reputation of reliability that Metso has established in the market. (wollastonite crusher)
"Supplying to Los Bronces ratifies Metso's position as an important supplier of metallic mill linings for large mills and confirms our position as the only corporation with the technology and capacity to provide complete solutions in linings for grinding mills with assured returns for our customers," concludes Rodrigo Gouveia, Global Product Manager, Metallic Linings.
